Why The Garden of Evening Mists should win the 2012 Booker Prize

Claire Armitstead argues that Tan Twan Eng's second novel, The Garden of Evening Mists, should win this year's Booker prize. It sees Yun Ling, sole survivor of a Japanese labour camp, become apprentice to imperial gardener Aritomo. Not yet a widely known novelist, his second novel is nonetheless his second appearance as a Booker nominee.
